Creating a Great Rustic Home

Setting the right feel for your house is very important, as you want to create somewhere that is comfortable and suited to your own personal style. Many people opt to go for a slightly rustic ambience characterised by worn down floors, old furniture and dark and comfortable rooms. Luckily with the help of floor sander hire and appropriate furniture you can make this change.
The key to a rustic looking home is floors and walls that show their age – this doesn’t mean that they should be in a poor state, rather you just want them to be a bit worn down. The best way to do this is to hire a floor sander and apply it to your hardwood floors – this combined with a rustic lacquer will completely change the way they look. Be warned though, this change is irreversible so make sure you are happy with a rustic look before cracking out the sander. You can complement this by applying thick white paint to your walls and leaving any wooden beams exposed.
Furniture is another key element to making a rustic environment. The key here is to focus on materials that evoke an old feel – worn down wood and wrought iron work particularly well. Your first buy should be a large wooden dinner table which can serve as the centrepiece of your kitchen, pick up matching chairs and squishy leather couches to complete the pictures. When you start decorating your bedrooms you can focus on wrought iron, especially when it comes to bedframes.
It is also worth investing in a few knick knacks to complete the rustic feel – don’t buy these new as you can easily pick them up at a second hand store for a fraction of the price. Old lanterns, pictures and bookshelves will all help lend a rustic feel. Best of all, some of these items might even be useful: old iron kettles for instance can still be used. Of course you don’t want to go overboard with this kind of thing, as if you buy too many your house will start to resemble a cheesy chain restaurant.
Giving your home a rustic feel takes a significant investment of time and money yet it may well be worth the effort – the appeal of this style is that it creates areas which are very comfortable: your friends and family will have no problem relaxing in your rustic abode.
